Spread over three gentle hills (40 km from Lucignano), Siena is the city of the Palio, which, twice a year (2 July and 16 August) is passionately disputed by the 17 historical districts of the city to celebrate the Madonna of Provenzano.
But apart from the famous Piazza del Campo, witness to the harmony of medieval city buildings, the other two "thirds" of the city must not be missed, dominated respectively by the splendour of the Cathedral with its black and white striped bell tower and by San Domenico, the impressive basilica of Gothic imprint made entirely of brick.
